Merjent Selected One of “America’s Safest Companies”

Over the past 15 years Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Today magazine has recognized a total of 192 companies for excellence at integrating safety into their corporate culture and for achieving safety metrics that are significantly better than their industry averages. This year, Merjent Inc, a professional environmental and social consultancy advising the world’s leading energy and mining companies, was among 16 companies selected for the honor and showcased as one of “America’s Safest Companies”.

To be considered one of America’s Safest Companies, an organization must demonstrate transformational EHS leadership in the form of: support from management and employee involvement; innovative solutions to safety challenges; injury and illness rates significantly lower than the average for their industries; comprehensive training programs; evidence that prevention of incidents is the cornerstone of the safety process; excellent communication, both internally and externally, about the value of safety; and must be able to substantiate the benefits of their safety process.

Dan Hannan, Merjent Corporate Health and Safety Officer, is part of the management team at Merjent, where he ensures that safety is a primary concern for all — from field crews to company executives. Mr. Hannan explained, “Effective risk management starts with a clear understanding of the human and business costs of an injury. All of our staff know their responsibilities and hold each other accountable for executing our safety practices.”

The best practices from all of the 2015 America’s Safest Companies are featured in the November issue of EHS Today magazine and summarized on the EHS Today website to honor these companies for their unwavering commitment to worker safety and health and environmental stewardship. See the EHS website for details.
